Encourage Yourself in the Lord

Scripture Reading – 1 Samuel 30 vs 1-6

Main Verse: And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30 vs 6 KJV

Have you ever been placed in a situation where you felt all alone? No one is there, only you?  Kind of like doing a test where the teacher stops talking and is now invigilating or maybe one of those experiences where you are given something to do and you don’t have a clue how you’re going to get it done. All signs on the road say impossible.

I am reminded of a time when I was a child and my mom sent me to the shop, it was so dark and I was so terrified. I ran so hard to that shop and back, that when I got to my gate I didn’t stop to open it, instead, I  jumped over it, today I have a scar on my leg to show for it.
Well you know what women; we face these situations all the time. We feel helpless, alone and have no idea where to turn. However, we don’t have to despair or be afraid, or feel depressed, sad and worry. Yes, it is natural to feel that way, even David felt that way when his own soldiers threatened to stone him. He was distressed (anxious, distraught, troubled, concerned, and worried). These men were angry. I think he envisioned himself lying there dead.

However, he encouraged (inspired, strengthened) himself in the Lord. So today when the troubles come whether it’s related to the job, your husband or lack thereof, your children, family, finances etc. Speak over yourselves, encourage yourselves in the Lord and trust him.

Look in the mirror and affirm yourself with the scriptures below. Personalize them and speak them over yourselves today. Remember life and death is in the power of the tongue, if you speak negatively, you reap negatively. So speak words of healing and encouragement over your life today.

Scriptures:
·        Phillipians 4:6
·         Isaiah 55: 8- 11
·         Romans 8:37
·         1 Thessalonians 5:24
