A Mind to Work (Part 2)

Main Scripture: So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work. Nehemiah 4:6 (KJV) – Read the Book of Nehemiah.

Achieving our goals and aspirations is not easy but remember ladies if you have a mind to work, you can attain whatever desire you have. The late Napolean Hill said “whatever your mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.” The next steps to complete building are as follows:

1.   Get approvals - In building, there are approvals you will need from regulatory bodies so when the inspectors come you can show them that you plan has been approved. Nehemiah’s plan was approved by the King and God. In the same way we will need to get our plans approved, ensure that your plan is the will of God of your life and that you get all the necessary approvals or blessings before you carry out your plans.

2.   Get financing – You will need to know where the money is going to come from to construct your building. Nehemiah found favour in the sight of the King; the King gave Nehemiah letters so he could travel freely and so that he could acquire timber to rebuild the wall. Depending on what your building there some level of support you will need, get this support from family, friends or the relevant supporting bodies.

3.   Get a contractor – The final step before building is to get a contractor. Some people get a contractor or build themselves. Nehemiah was the contractor for the wall and he got the people of Jerusalem to help him. While working on your dreams and aspirations l you may need an advisor, a counselor, a life coach or a financial advisor. Whatever expertise you need to realize your dreams and aspirations seek it. There is an old proverb that says “whenever the student is ready, the master will appear.” Jesus said seek me and you shall find me. In order to achieve your desire it is necessary to seek for the get the help that is necessary to build them.

Let’s Pray,

Father God, thank you once more for giving us a life of hope, dreams and aspirations. Lord we pray that as we seek to achieve that which you have placed in us, you will direct and lead us. Lord we pray that you will cause doors of opportunities and favours to open so that we will get the relevant approvals and financial support necessary to carry out our plans. Also Lord, hook us up with the right people at right time so that our dreams might be realized.

Amen.

A Mind to Work (Part 1)

Main Scripture: So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work. Nehemiah 4:6 (KJV) – Read the Book of Nehemiah.

We all have dreams and aspirations and we all want to be successful at something. For some of us, it’s our careers or a business, for some it’s our marriages, for some it’s ministry, for some its being a mother and for others its being a Christian. Despite what we want to be successful at, it is important that we have a mind to work.

In Nehemiah we saw where the people were given the task of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem however, the scripture tells us that “the people had a mind to work” so they got the task done in fifty two days. The people of Israel were so fired up and motivated to build the wall absolutely nothing could stop them from building the wall.

In the same way we have to have a mind to work at whatever we want to be successful at. We have to be determined in our hearts that we will never give up and that we will get the work done. Ladies you have to be passionate about your dreams, knowing that God placed them in you and He is faithful to see you through.

There are some steps to take when we are building anything and in the same way we have to take these steps when building our marriages, our businesses, growing our children and so on:

1.   Identify the Land – Normally when you are building you have to identify where you want to build. In Nehemiah’s case God laid it on his heart to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. What has God laid on your heart? What do you need to be successful at today? This is your starting point, your land.

2.   Survey the Land – A land survey will tell you the boundaries of your property, research the documents available about your land and inform of any discrepancies. Nehemiah did an inspection of the walls of Jerusalem and found that they were in a bad way, the wall was entirely ruined. Make an assessment of your marriage, your Christian life or your career, that way you will know how much work you will need to do to build.

3.   Draw Plans – If you are doing a physical building you would need an architect to design the plans for building. Make a plan on how you are you are going work on what God has laid in your heart. Ask God what is His plan for this aspect of your life, seek expert advice, read materials that are already there in relation to your specific goal and document your plan.Ladies these are the first three steps to becoming successful at whatever your goals and aspirations are, remember however that you have make up your mind that you are going make it and that you will not waver. The Lord is your strength and He will sustain you to complete the work that He has started in you.

Let’s Pray,

Almighty God, thank you for laying on our hearts dreams and aspirations. Lord we pray that you will ignite the fire in us to see the through. Lord give us a mind to work just like the people that work with Nehemiah had so that we will not give up but so that we will stand resolute and see the work to the end. Lord once again we thank you.

In Jesus Name

Amen.

Divine Appointments

Main Scripture: So he left Judea and went back once more to Galilee.4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. John 4:3-6 (NIV)

Song to meditate on: I’m Available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJznj1a8I1w)

Today’s Bible story is about Jesus and the woman at the well. In this story Jesus was enroute from Judea to Galilee, however verse 4 of the scripture tells us that “he had to go through Samaria”.  This route was the direct route to Galilee however; the Jewish custom was to travel a much longer, hotter, uncomfortable route because there was a prejudice against the Samaritian people.

Note that Jesus came to rest at the well of Jacob around noon or the sixth hour. In Roman time this was about six o’ clock in the evening. Now, it was not customary for the women to come to the well so late in the evening however, since this woman was an outcast she preferred to come to the well when all the other women were gone.

During this meeting, although Jesus was resting He seized the opportunity to share with this woman about his purpose on this earth, which was to call sinners to repentance by providing them with the gift of living water so she would never thirst again. It is quite evident by her actions that Jesus did not treat this woman like everyone else did as, she left the well and told everyone she could find about the impact He had on her life.

Judging, based on the circumstances of the meeting, this meeting was no coincidence. Jesus had to go through Samaria to meet with this woman.
In the same way, there are situations that we think are some times mere coincidences but they were set up by God. How we deal with these situations is very important. Jesus could have said that He was tired and ignored this woman however; He sensed the woman’s needs and decided to seize the opportunity to talk to her, leaving her with a sense of peace and a purpose to her life.

Is there any such person or situation in your life? It may seem like a nagging situation or this person might seem like a bother. This situation might be inconvenient and you often ask God why me? I believe that God divinely place situations and persons in our lives so that we can have an impact. You may have an overbearing boss or a nagging neighbor that constantly oppresses or annoys you. Today, ask God what is your purpose in all of this and ask Him to give you the patience and grace to deal with the situation. You may find that you were placed in the situation by God to make an extraordinary impact.

Let’s Pray,

Father God, thank you for the blessings that you have given to us. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to touch others lives. Father we pray today that you will help us to discern these situations that we might deal with them appropriately. Also, give us the grace and patience to deal with them Lord, so that others might come to know you through us.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Perception

Main Scripture: What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiates 1:9)

Song to meditate on: He Will Always Make A Way – James Fortune (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZaUtR2e5g4)

Aldous Huxley once said that “there are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception.” In other words the way in which something is regarded, understood, or interpreted will determine the depth of the situation or thing.  Let’s consider this story about a butterfly.

One day a man opened the garage door, which startled a large butterfly. It flew immediately to its perceived escape, the circle-topped window where it frantically tried to exit through the invisible wall of closed glass. The man raised the third-car garage door in hopes of aiding its escape. This caused the butterfly to fly higher and higher and become entangled in a spider web.
Fearful that it would remain entangled in the web, the man selected a long-handled broom to assist him escaping the tangled threads. At this, the butterfly returned to furiously pumping his wings and banging into the glass, which was, in his perspective, the pathway of escape, but remained his cage.
By simply turning his focus to one side, he would have easily exited his prison. Rather, due to his intent on one direction, he remained confined, captive.
How many of us are like this butterfly? Often times we are encountered with a situation or a problem and because we choose to focus on one side, most times the negative side, we miss the opportunities that are attached to the specific situation.

You see ladies, most times our view of things are one-sided, we tend to view things based on our current or past knowledge and experiences without realizing that there is a body of knowledge out there that we have not been exposed to.  Things are usually multi-dimensional and can be viewed from more than one side. As Aries Eroles  said, “you can see a rose in two ways first, through its beautiful petals. The other, through its thorns”

Ladies, your perception of a situation or problem will determine your level of success. Today‘s scripture reminds us that “there is nothing new under the sun.” It therefore means that whatever your situation is someone has already been through it. As such, it is always good to seek out the view point of others that you can trust. Also the world is at your finger tips; many persons are freely sharing their stories on the World Wide Web. I don’t mind being called a “Google God” if it is going to help me to look at the glass “half full instead of half empty”

Ladies my encouragement to you today is, don’t let opportunities pass you by and don’t remain depressed over your situation because of your limited sight. Arthur Rimbaud said “I believe I am in Hell, therefore I am.”  Choose today to view your situation from all perspectives, don’t be like the butterfly and look to one side, if you do you may never find your way of escape.

 Let’s Pray,

Lord, thank you for another day full of opportunities and exciting times ahead. Lord I pray today that you will broaden our thinking so that we will see and perceive and hear and understand. Help us Lord not be limited in our sight but instead to look for that way of escape that you promised us in our Word.

Amen

Your Season Has Come

Main Scripture: Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. Psalms 102:13 (KJV)

Song to meditate on: Season – Donald Lawrence and the TriCity Singers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyxNNy_24-k&feature=player_detailpage)

Have you ever been experiencing trials and hard times, you prayed long and hard about something and then one day out of the blue you got a break? You feel like everything has changed and the windows of heaven just opened up and poured you out a blessing. Everything just suddenly changes and everything that you do is suddenly working out, promotions come, you’re at peace and you’re happy again.

This period is referred to as “your time” or “your season”. This period in your life is normally full of favours and blessings from God. It is normally a transition from a bad or slow period to where you “expect to have hope rekindled and expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways” according to  Sarah Ban Breathnach . During this period you will see things falling into place according to Gods plan. Like Zion your “set time” has come.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that “there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:” (NIV). As such it is important that you understand when your season has come and what you should do at this time. Ladies, when your season has come it is time to act. Time to send out that resume for the new job, time to move into that new house, time to buy that stock that you always dreamt of buying, time to change career and time start that Masters . This season is an open window for blessings and favour.

You see ladies, you have been dreaming, you have been praying and you have been preparing and planning. Well the time has come for action. It’s time to walk into your season. Since lately I have been feeling like the seasons of my life have shifted some how and God has opened the windows of heaven. I feel like there is just no limit to where I can go and all the untapped potential within me is about to be released. I seriously feel like my season has come and I am going to walk into my season.

Do you feel motivated to do something extraordinary? Do you feel like the box you are in is too small for you? Are you filled with passion and feel as if you are going to burst if you don’t unleash your desire? Well that passion inside of you, that uncomfortable feeling you have, that desire to just get up and fly suggest that your season is about to come. Walk into your season ladies and watch God open up windows of opportunities for you.

God placed that desire in you, you have prayed about it, planned for it. Now is the time to walk into your destiny. God will make provisions for you, don’t worry about it, don’t doubt, just do what God has already ordained you to do. Listen and worship with today’s song and walk into your season.

 Let’s Pray,

Father, thank you for a new season. Thank you for the opportunities and favours that you are blessing us with God. Thank you Lord for all we are about to become. As we walk in our season we claim what is rightfully ours.

Where are the Men?

Main Scripture: And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Genesis 2:18 (KJV)

Song to meditate on: Woman Helping Man - The Vogues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTDuDNUbqlw

Often times as women we ask the question where are the good men? This is understandable as statistics clearly show that “good men” are in short supply as women outnumber men in churches, in educational attainment and men are lagging behind in employment. This morning ladies, I would like us to reflect on how we contribute to this growing problem and how what can we do to improve it.

We sometimes criticize our men, complaining that they are not good men, that they are not strong, that they are not responsible and also that they don’t know how to treat women and so on.

However, do we demand a certain treatment from men before we enter into life long relationships with them? Are we like the female eagle that test the male eagle’s strength and dedication before we have children with them? Do we lower our standards and settle for mediocre because we are scared that we cannot do any better or we would rather have a relationship than none at all? Do we demand that men date us or do we make it easy for them? Do we allow them to open the doors or do we open the doors ourselves? Are we feminists who demand equality with men? Do we take over their roles as leaders instead of demanding and allowing them to lead?

What about parenting - mothers are we training our boys to be good, strong men who know how to treat women? Or are we smothering and over protecting them? Do we support and encourage them when they do things that are wrong especially towards women? Do we grow them up in the admonition of the Lord? Do we teach them to respect themselves, adults and others? Do we discipline our boys?

What about leadership in the home? – Wives do we allow the men to be the head of the house? Do we submit to our husbands in everything as prescribed in Ephesians 5:33. Do we submit to our husbands as fitting to the Lord? Do we emasculate our men or do we respect and praise them continuously? Do we trust them to lead or do we question their every decision? Do we respect them or do we show them who wear the pants every chance we get? Do we remind them of their failures constantly or do we support them in all endeavours?

Ladies, I am not saying that we should allow men to treat us any way and we take it. I am not suggesting that we should not be leaders in our own right? I am just asking us to search ourselves this morning, sometimes we are so independent and so intolerant we tend to take on the roles of men. When we do this they then take a back seat.

Genesis 2:18 tells us that the Lord made us as a help meet for man; it means that we should support our men; we should respect them, encourage them and lift them up. There is a saying that goes “behind every great man, there is a great woman.” This great woman can either be his wife, his mother, his sister or even a good friend. Fact is they need our support in order for them to be successful at what they do.

Ladies, if you think that good men are in short supply then stop talking down to our men and criticizing them. The Bible also says that death and life are in the power of our tongues, what we say will be manifested eventually. I believe our years of talking bad about men have been manifested. Let’s start talking positively and allow the men to take their rightful place as men. I believe when we start doing this the men will arise. It is their nature to be leaders and protectors but if we don’t demand this from them and stop making it easy by filling these positions they will not step up to the plate. This kind of attitude could save your marriage, your family, your life and even a whole generation.

Let’s Pray,

Father, this morning we want to thank you for the men in our lives, especially the ones that are playing their roles as men. Lord today forgive us for speaking negatively about men. Lord help as of today help us to speak positively, encourage and support those that you have blessed us with. Lord we understand the gaps but we know that you are able to do what we ask. We place this in your hands. These and other mercies we ask.

Amen

Ripple Effect – The Power of Words

Main Scripture: Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6

There is a saying that goes “stick and stones may break my bones but words can never harm me.” This I don’t believe is true. Words are extremely powerful; they can give life to a person or kill them. Proverbs 18:21 warns us that death and life are in the words we use. As such, Ladies a prayer that asks God to season our words with salt can be extremely useful in our everyday lives.

Words have ripple effects, they have caused countries to war against each other and have caused many relationships to end bitterly. Words can also empower, motivate and build. We see in Genesis where just by breathing a few words God created the earth.

So today ladies, lets start watching how we use our words.

Let’s watch our words when we talk to our partners – a few words that makes a man feel emasculated especially in public or in front of another friend can affect a relationship in a negative way based on how it is dealt with. Use words that show respect and build instead of tearing your partner down. Remember ladies “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger” Proverbs 15:1 (KJV)

Let’s watch our words when we talk to our children – Children are impressionable; words can either make them or break them. It is said that “Children learn what they live, if children live with criticism they learn to condemn, if children live with encouragement they learn confidence.” (Dorothy Law Nolte, PHD). Speak words of love and life to your children.

Let’s watch our words when we talk about others – The bible tells us that the tongue is full of deadly poison and out of the same mouth comes praising and cursing. However this should not be so (James 3:8-13). Let us be considerate when we talk about each other, we should not gossip about or slander each other with our words. There is a saying “if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.”

Let’s watch our words when we talk about ourselves – The words we speak over ourselves can either bless us or curse us. Again life and death is in the power of our own tongue. Speak words of life over yourselves and not words of condemnation. Proverbs 14:1 says the wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down (ESV). Don’t be foolish with the words you speak over yourself.

Ladies may God season your words with salt today.

Let’s Pray,

Father, thank you for your words of inspiration today. Lord we pray that you will teach us to tame our tongues, season our words with salt so that we will know how to answer today. Help us to answer gently and not to be sassy or feisty when dealing with our husbands. Help us to build and encourage our children instead of tearing them down. Lord help us to be kind about what we say to others and help us to speak life over ourselves. Your guidance we seek today.

In Jesus Name

Amen.

Just Do It

This morning’s title is borrowed from Nike’s inspirational ad campaign, JUST DO IT.

Have you ever had something to do; you know it is the right thing to do; you’re at peace with it, because you have prayed about it long and hard and you’re absolutely sure that it is what you are supposed to do? Yet you don’t do it because you doubt. You tell yourself that you are going to fail; you tell yourself that you are not good enough. You tell yourself that you do not have enough resources, and you pray God’s ears off asking if it is the right thing to do, even though He has confirmed that it is the right thing to do fifty times before.

Well girl, JUST DO IT… As the NIKE ad said

“Quit making excuses, putting it off, complaining about it, dreaming about it, whining about it, crying about it, believing you can’t , worrying if you can, waiting until you’re older, skinnier, richer, braver, or all around better, suck it up, hold on tight, say a prayer, make a plan and JUST DO IT.”
If it’s in your heart, if you have prayed about it, if you feel passionate about it, if you’re convicted that you should do it, make a plan and JUST DO IT."

If you’re to lead, JUST DO IT. If you’re to leave, JUST DO IT, if you’re to start a business, JUST DO IT. If you are to go back to school, JUST DO IT. Whatever u need to do, JUST DO IT.

So what if you fail? JUST DO IT. So what if persons around you say you can’t? JUST DO IT. So what if others failed at it? JUST DO IT. Believe in yourself and JUST DO IT.

After u Just DO IT then DO IT again and DO very well at it.

May God Bless You while you DO IT.

Let’s Pray

Father God thanks for the ideas that you have given to us. Forgive us for doubting what you have already confirmed. Lord, I pray that you will increase our faith and our ability to depend on you  so that after we have prayed we will just step out and DO IT knowing that you are capable of taking care of us and making provision for the ideas that you have given to us.

Lady, Are You Rich?

Main Scripture: Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it. We may receive it gladly, with thankful hearts… (1 Timothy4:4)

They huddled inside the storm door – two children in ragged outgrown coats."Any old papers, lady?"I was busy. I wanted to say no – until I looked down at their feet. Thin little sandals, sopped with sleet. "Come in and I'll make you a cup of hot cocoa." There was no conversation. Their soggy sandals left marks upon the hearthstone.
I served them cocoa and toast with jam to fortify against the chill outside. Then I went back to the kitchen and started again on my household budget. The silence in the front room struck through to me. I looked in.The girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. The boy asked in a flat voice, "Lady… are you rich?"
"Am I rich? Mercy, no!" I looked at my shabby slip covers. The girl put her cup back in its saucer – carefully. "Your cups match your saucers." Her voice was old, with a hunger that was not of the stomach.
They left then, holding their bundles of papers against the wind. They hadn't said thank you. They didn't need to. They had done more than that. Plain blue pottery cups and saucers. But they matched. I tested the potatoes and stirred the gravy. Potatoes and brown gravy, a roof over our heads, my man with a good steady job – these things matched, too.
I moved the chairs back from the fire and tidied the living room. The muddy prints of small sandals were still wet upon my hearth. I let them be. I want them there in case I ever forget again how very rich I am.

The story above teaches that life is just a matter of perspective and attitude. Sometimes we complain about life, what we have and what we don’t have but my question today is Lady, Are you Rich?
Yes I believe you are. Do you have a job? Do you have children? Do you have at least one person who loves you? Do you have a husband or spouse that comes home at night? Do you have a roof over your head? Are you in good health?  Are you able to smile? Are you happy? Are you alive?  then Lady, you are Rich.
This morning ladies, let us focus on the blessings that God have given to us, instead of what we don’t have. Adopt the attitude of looking at the glass half full instead of half empty. Promise yourself to look on the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true (Christian Larson).
There are so many persons out there who are not as blessed as you are, so many who are homeless and cannot find food to eat. Cancer is the like the new flu, death is so common these days and many don’t have someone to say I love you. So ladies appreciate I implore what you have, cherish what you have and be thankful to Almighty God for all the blessings that He has given to you.

Let’s Pray
Almighty God, thank you for the blessings that you have so unselfishly given unto us even when we are unworthy. Lord, we come humble to you today, asking for your forgiveness for the times when we have complained and have been ungrateful. Lord, help us today to focus on the positives in our lives instead of the negatives knowing that we are rich. Lord again we thank you.

Spending Time with God

Main Scripture: Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. (Mark 1:35)

Song to meditate on: Jim Reeves – In the Garden (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UilrmC1M1s4)

In today’s scripture we see where Christ took time away from his work and friends to spend personal time with God. This time spent with God is quite beneficial and is as important as our necessary food. As a matter fact it should be priority and we should try our best to spend time with God at the beginning of our day like Christ did. Ladies you will also find that it is time well spent as spending time with God:

Deepens Your Relationship with Him – When we enter into a relationship with anyone, we usually take time to get to know them by spending quality time with them. In the same way we need to spend quality time with God in order to strengthen our relationship with Him. This time should be spent communicating with Him, listening to Him and getting to know Him by reading the Bible. James encourages us to draw close to God and He will draw close to us (James 8).

Strengthens You spiritually - Our bodies are made up of body, soul and spirit. Our bodies are nourished by eating food, but our spirit receives its nourishment from spending time with God. Also the Lord is the source of our strength as such we much spend time with Him to access this strength (Psalms 105:4).

Allow you to know the mind of God with regards to his plan and purpose for your life – The Lord has a plan and purpose for each and every one of us.(Jer 29:11, Eph 2:10). When you spend time with God He will reveal His plans and purpose for your life.

Reveals Ideas – The Lord will reveal ideas to you when you are in His presence. For example, it was while I was having some personal time with God the idea for this devotional came to me. As such while spending time with God you should also listen.

Provides peace - Normally when you are anxious and worried about something a good place to find peace is in God presence. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to pray and the peace of God will guard our hearts and minds.

Let’s Pray

Father, today we thank you for being there for us. We thank you that we have access to you through your Son Christ Jesus. Father God help us today to be diligent and purposeful about spending time in your presence Lord as our spirit man needs to be nourished in the same way our physical man needs nourishment. We thank you Lord for being our strength, for revealing your plans and ideas to us and for giving us your peace.

In Jesus Name

Amen
