Guarding our Hearts (Part 1)

Main Scripture: The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.

Often times we say we are “heart broken” or we have “grateful heart” or “I give you my heart”, but exactly what is the heart? Is it that organ that pumps blood? And if it is that organ how can it be broken or we give it away and we don’t die?

That’s because the heart that we are referring to is not the physical organ, the heart we are referring to is also known as the mind or the soul. The Oxford dictionary defines it as “the centre of a person’s thoughts and emotions, especially love or compassion”

The Bible tells us that our hearts are deceitful (dishonest, disloyal, and desperately wicked) without cure and we ourselves cannot even understand it. That is why sometimes we say that we would never do something and then we find ourselves doing the same thing we said that we would never do just a few days or even moments after. There is a famous quote that says “The heart has reasons that reason does not understand.” Hence it is very important that we have a relationship with the creator, the only one who understands our heart, so that we too will know our hearts.

Mark 7:21 - 23 tells states “For it is from within, out of a person's heart, that evil thoughts come--sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person." As such we are advised in Proverbs 4:23 “Above all else, guard your heart (watch over your heart, keep your heart with vigilance) for everything you do flows from it.”

Ladies, this means that the course of our lives, how we think, the actions we take, how we speak comes from our heart. Therefore knowing our hearts and guarding it becomes very critical.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father,

I pray that you will help us to know our hearts; your word says that you search the heart and examine the mind. Search our hearts Lord and create in us a clean heart today. Give us hearts that are pliable and not hardened so that good things will come out of our hearts and not evil things
In Jesus Name

Amen

Have a God Filled Day Ladies
