Main Scripture: Beloved, I wish above all
things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth 3
John1:2
My very good friend said to me one day, “I need someone
to take care of me as I don’t know how to.” The fact is she has been taking
care of everyone for all her life that she does not know when or how to do something for her
own enjoyment. She is very involved in ministry, owns her own business and
spends a huge amount of time caring for the needs of her friends, relatives and
husband.
How many of us can relate to my friend’s lifestyle,
where our lives are so centered around taking care of others and working that
we find absolutely no time for our selves. Here are a few tips on how we can
start having “Me-Time”
Accept that “Me-Time” is necessary (even God rested) – Genesis 2:2 states “And
on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the
seventh day from all his work which he had made.” God didn’t need to rest but as Rabbi Dr.Michael
Samuel states in his article Why Would A God Need to Rest on the Seventh Day? “Obviously it wasn't because of tiredness!
God's resting from creation teaches us that as human beings created in the
image of God, we too need to make time for rest and purposely abstain from
interfering with creation one day of the week. The passion to create can
sometimes be dangerous — especially for a technological society that prides
itself on its ability to create, manipulate and control the world around it.”
Purposely
take some time off – This time off does not have to be a
whole day, remember a few minutes can provide the rejuvenation needed to get
the juices flowing again. In Mark 6:31, Jesus told the disciples to “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet
place and get some rest.” As they were so busy, they did not have time
to eat.
Learn
to say No – I know this one is hard as we are so caring and we
just want to please everyone. Truth is sometimes we feel that if we don’t take
on the task the world is going to collapse and no one can do the task as well
as us. Stop lying to yourself, say no, learn to delegate and stop feeling guilty;
the fact is there is no way you can do everything.
Don’t
feel guilty or anxious about taking time for yourself – Psalms 127:2 says “It is vain for you to rise up early, to
sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.”
In other words, don’t worry that things will not get done because you take some
time off, God is gave us sleep because He knew we needed to rest.
Ladies, make an effort
today to really start taking care of yourself. As the saying goes “just push
pause”. Believe me you won’t regret it and others will thank you for it.
Let’s Pray
Father, thank you for creating us in your image and
likeness. Thank you for giving us an example of rest. Help us to follow your
example and to accept this gift of rest that you have given to us. Remind us
daily that we are not machines or robots instead we are your temple and that we need to take time to get
our needed rest.
In Jesus Name
Amen
Have a
God Filled Day Ladies
