Don’t Let Your Ship Sink

Song To Meditate On: Guard Your Heart – Steve Green (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx65zb8AQpo)

“The ship doesn't sink because it is in the water, it sinks only when the water gets inside of it. You can sail through the storms of life as long as you don't allow the elements of the storm to get inside of you.” This was a quote from one of Bishop TD Jakes, a very popular televangelist sermon.

Ladies, this morning I want you to reflect on how secure your ship is while it is in the water. Your ship can be likened to your dreams, your spiritual walk with God or even your marriage. All of our ships will be shaken at some time or the other, all of us will face the storms of life however, it is important that we keep our ships secure by not allowing the elements to get inside the ship. The following are some elements of the storms of life that you should not allow inside of your ship:

Anger – It was J.G.Holland who said that “calmness is the cradle of power.”  Whenever you get angry it clouds your thinking and causes you to respond in an irrational. Many men have committed murder because of anger, many dreams did not come to fruition because of anger, and many relationships come to an end because of anger. Do not allow anger to sink your ship, count to ten, exercise self-control and calm down before you react.

Unforgiveness –Forgiveness is a command from Christ himself (Matt 6:14-16). The beauty about forgiving however, is that when we forgive we are helping ourselves. Lewis B. Smedes wrote in his book, Forgive and Forget, "When you release the wrongdoer from the wrong, you cut a malignant tumor out of your inner life. You set a prisoner free, but you discover that the real prisoner was yourself." Forgiving someone who has done us wrong releases us from anger, bitterness and resentment that previously imprisoned us.

Fear – F.E.A.R. is said to mean False Evidence Appearing Real. Ladies many times we allow fear to paralyze us and lose out on the many blessings God has prepared for us. We often think of “what ifs” and allow the things that we tell ourselves, that are not even real to prevent us from realizing our full potential.

Doubt/ Unbelief – In order for God to move on our behalf we have to first believe. Mark 11:23 says “I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.” As such ladies, if you do not believe in your dreams, your marriage or that you can make it spiritually, rest assured you will fail. Your ship will sink.

Negative Talk – Do not sink your ship with negative talk. Negative talk can either come from your own lips or from people around you. The Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of our own tongues, so do not ever think that words are just wind. Words have life and they can sink your ship.

Ladies always check your ship to ensure that there is no way for the elements of the storm to come in. This is the only way you can keep your ship afloat. Tomorrow we will talk about how to secure you’re ship to prevent it from sinking.

Have A God Filled Day Ladies

Let’s Pray,
Mighty God, thank you for your protection during our storms, help us to guard our ships by not letting the elements of the storms overcomes. Take us through safely.
In Jesus Name

Amen
