It Is Never Too Late

Song for Meditation: If I Could Reach Higher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLQ64BTCH2E)

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” George Eliot

The former Mau Mau freedom fighter who is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest person to enter primary school made this quote true. Kimani N’gan’ga Maruge was 84 when he first went to school. When Maruge was a little boy he did not have the opportunity for a free education as such when the Kenyan government announced free primary education for all in 2002, Maruge went to his local primary school and demanded to be admitted. The teacher refused him several times but because of his determination she admitted him. Despite opposition from officials and parents who did not think it appropriate for him to be learning alongside six year olds, Maruge learned to read before he died. His inspiration was a letter he got from the government that he wanted to read himself and to read and understand the Bible.

Ladies what did you want to do that you never got to do? Maybe the opportunity did not present itself when you were younger or maybe you had to choose another path such as having children etc.

The next question is what are you going to use as your inspiration to be what you might have been?

As the quote above says it is never too late to be what you might have been. My encouragement to you today is to be what you might have been. Yes there may have been a delay in you starting but here is an opportunity to become what you want to be. Maybe you wanted to get a university education or learn to read like Maruge. Maybe you wanted to take a cooking class or start a cooking class. Maybe you want to start a business or do more at your church. Maybe you want to write a book or read a book. Whatever it is that you want to do start doing it now.

Because Maruge was determined to start reading a film called First Grader was made based on his story. He was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest man to enter primary school. He was invited to the United Nations in New York to give an address to International Leaders about the power of education and he inspired a whole new generation to go to school for the first time.

What is hinged on you becoming what you might have been? It is never too late.

Have A God Filled Day Ladies

Let’s Pray

Lord thank you today for giving us the potential to be our best selves. Lord I pray that you will send an inspiration that will cause us to be what we might have been.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Merry Christmas

Main Scripture: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.  Isaiah 9:6 ESV

Song for Meditation: O Holy Night – Mariah Carey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEJmP8T07JU)

It is Christmas Day again, a happy time for most. A day that is spent with family and friends and involves a lot of giving and receiving. Today while I wish for everyone a very Merry Christmas and a day that is filled with laughter and joy, I want to remind you that the reason for the season is still Christ. The first Christmas Gift – The gift that keeps on giving.

He came on this earth as a baby boy, grew up and gave His life just so that we might live. Today remember to take some time out to thank Him for His love and kindness towards us. Most importantly remember to replicate His love and kindness by giving to someone else. It could be your time, a physical gift or friendship today.

Merry Christmas everyone and thank you for your support and love.

God Bless You All on this wonderful Day.

Let’s Pray

Lord Jesus, we thank you for your gift of life. Thank you for your loving kindness. Father I pray that each and every one reading will have a wonderful and happy Christmas. Also help us today to make someone else happy by giving.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Embracing Mistakes

Main Scripture: And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.”  II Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)

Worship Song/Song to meditate on: We Fall Down But We Get Up by Donnie McClurkin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0tX_ctp0Gs)

As we come closer to the end of another year, it is customary for us to review what happened over the year and assesses what went wrong and what went right. Today I want to urge you embrace some of the mistakes that you have made. Instead of beating up yourselves about them take them as lessons learnt and build on them.

I myself have made many mistakes. I am reminded of a time when I had a deadline; and was extremely tired because I did not plan properly.  Ladies, I fell asleep and did not meet my deadline.  I felt really bad as several persons were depending on me and I felt like I failed. Then a friend of mine encouraged me to take it as a lesson learnt as it only proves that I am human and I am not perfect.
Ladies as humans we are fallible as such we are prone to failure. While it’s excellent for us to set high standards for ourselves and attain them, there are going be times when we miss the mark. We all make mistakes and disappoint ourselves and others.  In these times however, we should not dwell on our mistakes, instead we should accept where we went wrong, learn from our mistakes, reassess our strategies and try again.

I like something that Ghandi said, He said “Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes”. Winston Churchill said “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes.”

God himself knows that we are not perfect as such; He helps us to be strong. II Corinthians 12:9 tells us, "My strength is made perfect in weakness”. Therefore in order to become stronger, better and more experienced we make mistakes. Our mistakes will help us to adjust our attitudes, teach us humility and patience.

Mistakes also teach us to depend on God and others. Can you imagine if we never made any mistakes?  We would walk around as proud as a peacock. We would behave like we don’t need God or anyone else. Therefore, I think God divinely orchestrated it that we make mistakes sometimes. It keeps our heads small and makes us better.

Ladies today if you make a mistake, remember that you’re in good company. Successful people make a mistake, that’s how you grow.  They just never quit.

Have A God Filled Day Ladies,
Let’s Pray,
Lord you are the author and finisher of our faith. You made this day Lord and it is good so we shall rejoice in it. Father we come to you today acknowledging that as humans we are fallible and we ask for your strength Lord even when we are weak. Help us Lord not to condemn ourselves when we make mistakes instead help us to get up, brush ourselves off and re-strategize
In Jesus Name
Amen

In All Things, Give Thanks

Main Scripture: give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thess 5:18 (KJV)

Song for Meditation: Thanks, I Give You Thanks by Jovie Dino Jansen (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MF4xWiFO980)

The scripture for today encourages us to be grateful in not just some situations but all situations.

Today is celebrated as Thanksgiving Day in the United States, it is a public holiday and a day where people spend time with their families and have a big dinner. Thanksgiving Day according to Wikipedia is a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. A lot of times people forget to give thanks to the one who made it all worthwhile – Jesus Christ.

Ladies on this day, although you may or may not be in the United States, I encourage you to be thankful. Be thankful despite whatever circumstances you might have. Your car might have been totalled but be grateful that you survived. You may not have all you wanted for thanksgiving dinner but be grateful for your family. Find something to be grateful for today. Instead of complaining, pause think about the good in the situation and start being thankful for the good. I assure you will feel better for doing so.

Have a God filled Day Ladies,
Let’s Pray

Lord Jesus, we paused today to say thanks. Thanks for our families, for our lives , for our jobs and even for our problems. Father you have been so faithful over the past year and today we just pause to say thank you.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Laugh Out Loud (LOL)

Main Scripture: A joyful heart is good medicine (Prov 17:22a, ESV)

Song for Meditation: A Joy Heart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0gFV8em6k8)

You might have heard the saying that “laughter is good medicine.”  While a medical doctor might not prescribed laughing your ills and pains away the Bible concurs with this saying. Proverbs 17:22 tells us that “a joyful heart is good medicine.” Also according to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s website “a growing body of research supports the theory that laughter may have therapeutic value.” It further states that “For years, the use of humour has been used in medicine.” More and more the medical field is accepting laughter as a form of therapy that can help improve the quality of life of patients with critical illnesses.

So ladies today “laugh out loud.” It may be hard because you might be faced with a many problems of troubles however laughing will distract you and will help to soothe your issues. Today my encouragement to you is to read a funny story, book or comic or watch a comedy. As E.E. Cummings once said that “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.”

The Cancer Centers of America website also outlines the, physical benefits gained from laughing as follows:

  • Boosting  the immune system and circulatory system
  • Enhancing oxygen intake
  • Stimulating the heart and lungs
  • Relaxing muscles throughout the body
  • Triggering  the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers)
  • Easing digestion/soothes stomach aches
  • Relieving pain
  • Balancing blood pressure
  • Improving mental functions (i.e., alertness, memory, creativity)
Laughter may also help to:
  • Improve overall attitude
  • Reduce stress/tension
  • Promote relaxation
  • Improve sleep
  • Enhance quality of life
  • Strengthen social bonds and relationships
  • Produce a general sense of well-being
Ladies God wants us to be happy, He does not want us to worry and be stressed all the time. Psalms 30:11 says “You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy.”  So ladies laugh out loud today.

Have God-Filled Day Ladies

Let us pray

Lord Thank you for the gift of laughter. Today I pray that you will cause all of us to be glad and teach us to just laugh out loud so that we may enjoy all the benefits that come with it.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Treasures

Main Scripture:  “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matt 6:19-21, ESV)

There is a little game I play sometimes when I want to take a time-out called Diamond Digger Saga. It is about digging through diamonds and unearthing special treasures. The aim of the game is to collect as much treasure as you can with the number of moves allotted. However, if you dig long enough you will be brought to a treasure room where there is no obstacle and you can get all the treasures you want.

Whenever I play this game I think about today’s scripture because I would do everything to get all the treasures outside of the treasure room forgetting that there is a treasure room where it is all free.

Ladies we tend to be like this, it is natural and very ambitious for us to want to achieve wealth, a certain level of education, and as much material things as we can think about. However, today I want to reflect on the scripture because if we should be honest the thief of sickness, death, worry , anxiety and men have already started to deplete our treasures and they are not going anywhere with us when we die

So today ladies I want to encourage us to lay up some treasures in heaven, treasures where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. So if you should die today these treasures will last.

Some of the treasure that you should lay up includes:
 ·         A relationship with God – find time for fellow-shipping with God. Have daily time set aside for praying to and worshiping God.
 ·         Gratitude – Look for the little things in your life and be thankful for them. Instead of focusing on what is negative in your life focus on that with is positive.
 ·         Love for God and others – Ladies I encourage you show love with all that you have. The wealth, the education, the business that you have gained, use it to help others. Ladies in John 13:34, a commandment was given that we should love one another just as God loved us.
 ·         Forgiveness – For your own sake ladies, forgive.

Let’s Pray,

Lord we thank you for reminding us today that the treasures that we lay up in heaven is more important than any material treasure we could lay up for ourselves. Help us Lord to focus on these instead of focusing on those which are not eternal.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Easy Does It

Main Scripture: "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

Today’s scripture reminds me of the saying “easy does it”. Easy does it means that one should do things in calm, relaxed and easy manner and it will get done.

Since lately I have been very concerned about some plans I have that seems to be taking quite a while to be fulfilled however, somebody reminded me that it is  God that writes my story, as such  I need not worry. All I need to do is to trust God.

You see ladies having faith is about acknowledging God as the author of your story and trusting Him, having full assurance that He will come through for you.

I was also encouraged to pray and quiet my spirit because God is preparing me. Philippians 4:6 reminds us not to be anxious about anything but with pray and supplication we should make our requests known to God. Ladies your story is being written by God so that you can tell that story to someone who needs to be encouraged and someone whose faith needs to be increased.

Ladies my encouragement to you today is for “easy does it” - relax, remain calm and allow God to write your story. Just have faith.

Let’s Pray

Lord Jesus, thank you for writing our story. Thank plans for us that are only good but help to relax, be calm and endure while you perfect our stories.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Do Not Judge A Book By Its Cover

There is a quote that says “If you judge a book by its cover, you might miss out on an amazing story.”

Recently a friend of mine sent a video to me of Jim Carrey, you know the TV actor/ comedian from  Liar, Liar, Bruce Almighty,  Dumb and Dumber to name a few. Despite all his Golden Globe nominations I thought he was plain dumb and I really do not watch his shows because he annoys me.

This attitude however could have caused me to miss out on an excellent speech which was so inspiring, that will have an impact me on me for a long time to come. The speech can be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V80-gPkpH6M.

Ladies how many of us are like that? How many times have we missed out on something great because we did not give it a fair chance because of its appearance? What we missed out on could be a great relationship, a good job or even a healthy meal. Ladies the point I am trying to make is that we should not judge a book by its cover because we might just miss out on something great. We may just miss out on the blessings that God have for us because we did not take the time to look further.

I am also reminded of the following story:
“A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the  Bible young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautifully wrapped gift box.

Curious, and somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angry, he rose his voice to his father and said "with all your money, you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realised his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day.

Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still gift-wrapped Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt. 7:11, "And if ye, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in Heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words PAID IN FULL.”

Ladies my encouragement today is, do not be quick to judge. Do not allow your misconception, expectations, desires or emotions cause you to miss on the plans that God have for your life.

Have A God Filled Day Ladies.

Lets Pray,
Lord thank you for your words of wisdom today. Help us Lord not to be hasty to judge but instead trust you to help us to see what is on the inside so that we may receive the blessings you have in store for us.
In Jesus Name

Amen

You Can Make It

Main Scripture: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them;” Gen 1:27 (NIV)

Song to Meditate On: Win by Bryan McKnight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbE2YOYk5rc)

Sometimes in order to wind down from a long day of work, I play a game like “candy crush” for example. There are times when I reach a level I find very difficult pass and I may lose a few lives or take a lot more time to pass the level. At this point I realize I have to become more creative in order to move on but I also realize that every time I play that level I get closer to passing the level.

Ladies life is exactly like this, if instead of becoming overly discouraged when we meet up on obstacles or even fail, we press on instead. If we become creative and rethink our strategies we can make it. You see ladies life will throw all kinds of discouragement and obstacles in our way but we must remember that we were made to be creative. We must remember that we were made in the image and likeness of God therefore if God is a creator, we are also creators. Therefore there is no need to give up on your dreams and aspirations just re-think your strategy and use up that creative energy that God gave to you.

There are many great business gurus, inventors, scientists, Hollywood stars, athletes etc. who failed a couple times or were told that they couldn’t make it before they became successful however, they never gave up.

Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps."

Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he succeeded.

R. H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York City caught on.

Michael Jordan and Bob Cousy were each cut from their high school basketball teams. Jordan once observed, "I've failed over and over again in my life. That is why I succeed."

In high school, actor and comic Robin Williams was voted "Least Likely to Succeed."

So ladies if they can make it, you can make, we can make.

Let’s Pray,

Lord Jesus, thank you for making us in your own image and likeness. Thank you for giving us a creative mind. Lord help us never to give up when we meet on obstacles or when others discourage us. Help us instead to push and never give up.

In Jesus Name

Amen

Change My Heart Oh God

Main Scripture: Create in me a pure heart Psalm 51:10

Song to Meditate On: Change My Heart Oh God by Hillsong (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwudqCO7mSQ)

There is this little song on my heart, it goes:

Change my heart oh God,
Make it ever true.
Change my heart oh God,
May I be like You.

You are the potter,
I am the clay,
Mold me and make me,
This is what I pray.

This song is so profound because it focuses on God changing our own hearts instead of changing everyone else’s. I remember I was having a conversation with a friend about an issue I had with someone and she said to me “Peta, you cannot change the person but you can change yourself.

I know how hard it is to focus on changing yourself when the person you just feel like slapping the person who gets on your last nerve every day. Your issues may lie with someone at work, your neighbor, someone at church or maybe even your husband but Ladies my encouragement to you today is - ask God to change you, ask Him to make you more flexible  instead of asking Him to change the person.

The fact is ladies, we have no control over another person’s actions but we have control over how we react to the person’s actions. Therefore today, allow the Lord to mold you and make you instead of trying to change the person who is troubling you. Join me today in making this song the prayer of your heart.

Let’s Pray,

Lord Jesus help us to make this song a daily prayer. Help us to love those who persecute us daily and to forgive them. Lord Jesus we pray that you will give us hearts like yours

In Jesus Name

Amen

Putting Up a Resistance

Main Scripture: Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Luke 10:19

Song to Meditate On: Putting Up a Resistance by Beres Hammond (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVy86q3EFrc)

The title for today’s devotional is taken from a popular Reggae song by Beres Hammond.  In this song Hammond talks about the system and how much pressure there is when trying to beat it. He says

“There's no hope, no chance, no loophole,
No escape for a suffering man
Cause every time I lift my head above water
And try to save myself from drown
There's an overnight scheme all worked out
Designed to keep me down”

Ladies I am sure that just too much of us can identified with Hammond because a lot of us have given up hope of  a better life but Ladies today I just want to encourage you with the scripture. It tells us that God has given us power to overcome whatever system is trying to hold us down.

Like Beres, I am imploring you to put up a resistance, if you can just believe that nothing at all is impossible you will find a way out. Ladies there are some specific things I want you to resist today:

The first one is fear; most of us do not overcome because of fear. Today I want to remind us that fear is not of God.  Will Smith in his movie “After Earth”, said “Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not at present and may not ever exist…. danger is very real” he said ,” but fear is a choice.” So today ladies make the choice and resist fear.

The second things I want us to resist today are lies. Often times we believe lies told to us by those around us or even ourselves. Many times we are told that we cannot make it or “you will not turn out to anything good.”  But ladies today I tear down those lies in Jesus Name. Deuteronomy 28:13 tells us that the Lord will make us the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath if we obey His commands. So today ladies resist every lie told to you by anyone, you can overcome.

Lastly resist the system, anyone or anything that tries to keep you from being what God ordained you to be. Romans 8:37 tells us that we are more that conquerors through Him who loves us. So there are people who will want to keep you down and control you, emotionally, physically or otherwise. I implore you today to resist them. The Lord has already made us overcomers therefore not can prevent us from being successful.

Ladies remember today that the very word resistance means “refusal to comply with or accept something." Ladies refuse to accept that you cannot make it.

Let’s Pray,

Father thank you for your grace and mercies because with these we would not make it. Lord help us to resist the things God that will want us to believe that we cannot make it. Increase our faith Lord Jesus knowing that all things are possible with you and that we already have the victory.

In Jesus Name

Amen

A New Day

Today’s Scripture: It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3: 22-23

Song to Meditate On: A Good Day by J.Moss (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CLIuy-lH1I)

Have you ever had a bad day, a day where you feel so frustrated you feel like giving up or throwing in the towel? A day where you cried, you prayed and you cussed and just decided that you cannot bother because it is not worth it? but then you fall asleep; wake up and realize that it is a brand new day.

Ladies do you know what a brand new day means?

A brand new day means a fresh start, new opportunities and a new beginning. It is an opportunity to start all over again, it is an opportunity to come up with new ideas and to open new doors.

Best of all today’s scripture tells us that with a new day comes new mercies and compassion from God because He is faithful. You see ladies nothing that you have done is too great for God to overlook because He is so steadfast in His love for us.

Therefore ladies, harmed with God’s love, grab this new day and take advantage of what it brings. Do not focus on yesterday, today comes with its own opportunities, its own ideas and its own opportunity to start all over again. Make the best of it; walk into it as God walks with you.

Using Dr Steve Marboli’s words “There is beauty laced within this day…be courageous enough to find it, be kind enough to share it, and at the end of the day, be wise enough to let it go.” – Steve Maraboli

Let’s Pray,

Holy Father we thank you for this new day that you have given to. A day filled with new opportunities for a fresh start. Lord thank you for your mercies that are new as well and help us to use it to the best of our abilities according to your will.

In Jesus Name

Amen

God’s Exit Strategy

Today’s Scripture: There hath no temptation taken hold of you but such as is common to man. But God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted beyond that which ye are able to bear, but with the temptation will also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Cor 10:13

Song to Meditate On: Kirk Franklin – More Than I Can Bear (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ysrUtdC5gw)

An Exit Strategy is a “pre-planned means of removing oneself from a situation that is likely to become difficult or unpleasant.”  It is said that all investors should have some sort of exit strategy and it should be included in all business plans.

Ladies today’s scripture is telling us that God always have an exit strategy ready for when we are tempted. He does not promise us that temptations will not come but He promises us that He will provide a way out so that we can bear the temptations.

Have you ever been in a situation where temptation comes and the phone rang, or you are reminded of something someone said? Have you ever been in a tempting situation and the perfect opportunity comes for you to run? Ladies, these are examples of exit strategies that the Lord has provided, however a lot of times we do not take them because the temptation itself is very enticing and satisfies our lusts or desires.

1 Peter 5:8 implores us to be alert and sober in mind because our enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. As such when we do not take the way out that the Lord has provided we are only giving the devil space to devour us.

Today’s scripture also tells us that there is no temptation that will take hold of you that is not common to man and it further tells us that God is faithful and He will not allow us to be tempted more than we can bear. It simply means that whatever we are tempted with we have the power to endure and it will not kill us.

Ladies today my I challenge you to take the way out of the temptation remembering that others throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings so all we have to do is to resist the enemy and stand firm in our faith (1 Peter 5:9)

Let’s Pray,

Mighty God, thank you for providing a way of escape for us during times of temptations. Help us to be strong and endure.

In Jesus Name

Amen
