Today’s Scripture: What causes fights and quarrels among you?
Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not
have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel
and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you
ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
James 4:1-2 (NIV)
Recently someone brought this
scripture to my attention and I thought “wow! There is just so much truth to
this scripture.” It caused me to reflect not just on what causes contentions in
relationships but even contentions within us.
One commentary said that James could be
referring “to conflict in group relationships, such as within a church:
inflexibility about issues (from a desire to have one's own way), maneuvering
for position of authority (from a desire for status and admiration within the
community) or criticizing others (from a desire to make oneself look good). It
is equally applicable in individual relationships, such as a marital conflict:
constantly exchanging hurtful words (from a desire to get even) or carrying out
sexual infidelity (from a desire for selfish pleasure or simply a desire for
another spouse). “
I was also watching an old western
movie and the town elected a man to become Sheriff because he was capable of
taking on a gang that had been terrorizing the town for some time. He knew he was
capable of getting rid of the gang however he had one reservation – his desire
for alcohol. He just could not kick the habit so when his colleague was trying
to convince him to take the position because of how good he was with the gun,
he replied that it was easy fighting against the gun but this time the fight
was “me against me.”
The fact is ladies, most conflicts whether
they are with ourselves, with someone else or even with another country usually
start because of our own personal or selfish desires. Yet if we say yes to God’s will for our lives, if
we just submit to God’s will there would not be so much conflict, tears or
pain.
The bible admonishes us to:
·
Abstain from all appearance of evil. 1 Thess 5:22
·
Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:27
·
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Phillipians
2:5
If we should let go off our selfish ambitions and our
personal desires and obey God’s word, this world would be a better place. There
would be no wars among countries, there would be no divorce and our struggles
would not be so many.
This morning ladies I implore you to
say yes to what God is prompting you to do, before you do anything ask the
question Is this what God requires of me? I assure you if you do this you will
have more peace in all you do.
Have A God Filled Day Ladies
Let’s Pray
Father thank you for your mercies
that are new every morning. Help us to submit to your will so that this world
can be a more peaceful and loving place to live.
In Jesus Name
Amen
