Main Scripture: Not many of you should become
teachers, my fellow believers; because you know that we who teach will be
judged more strictly. 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at
fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
James 3:1-2 (NIV)
May 5 to 9, 2014 is celebrated as Teachers Appreciation week in
the United States and May 5, 2014 is celebrated as Teachers Appreciation Day.
This day is also celebrated in Jamaica.
This day is described as "a day for honoring teachers and
recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives". Indeed
teachers are to be celebrated and honoured, to most of us they are considered
second to our parents and very frequently considered as parents away from home
- the people who give us education, knowledge and guidance, the most important
jewels of our life. Aristotle once said “Those who educate children well are
more to be honored than they who produce them; for these only gave them life,
those the art of living well.”
Being a teacher is a very important
role and should not be taken lightly according to today’s scripture. Teachers are
not only expected to teach but they are also expected to be examples to those
who they impact. This can be an awesome responsibility as we are humans and we
are not perfect. It was William Arthur Ward that said “The mediocre teacher
tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great
teacher inspires.”
Today let us pray for those teachers
(in the classroom or otherwise) that have impacted our lives and inspired us to
be who we are today. Encourage them when you see them and honour them often.
Let’s Pray,
Father we pray for all teachers
today, wherever they are. We pray that you will strengthen them, cause them to
be prosperous in well-being and financially. God we thank you for them and pray
that you will keep them always.
In Jesus Name
Amen
Have a God Filled Day Ladies
