Scripture:
Genesis 22:1-19
Main Scripture: Abraham answered, “God himself
will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” Genesis 22:8 (NIV)
(During this month
I will do one Easter Devotional per week until Easter. Hope you will be blessed by this series.)
Today’s scripture tells us of Abraham obeying God’s command to
sacrifice his long awaited son Isaac. I can just imagine both son and father
crying, Isaac squirming and fighting as he was sure that this was the end of
him, He was sure that he was going to die.
However, just as he was about to slay
the boy, the Angel of the Lord called out to him and stopped him from killing
Isaac and the Lord provided a Lamb for Abraham to sacrifice instead of Isaac.
In this same way, another Lamb was sacrificed on Mount Calvary
for the sins of the world. John 3:16 states that “For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not
perish but have eternal life.” (NIV)
The Bible also tells us that the
wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord. (Romans 6:22). Therefore like Isaac all of us was or is still on the
verge of death because of sin, however, God provided a Lamb in our stead. The
purpose of Christ dying on the cross was so that we might have eternal life.
As such my encouragement to you this
morning ladies is that if you haven’t already accepted this gift of eternal
life, do not delay, do so today. Ask God to come into your heart, give him the
opportunity to lead and guide you in all you do.
Let’s Pray,
Lord, thank you for giving your son
Jesus Christ as a sacrifice for our sins. Today we ask you to come into our
lives, renew us and lead us according to your will so that we might have
eternal life.
In Jesus Name
Amen
