Good Deeds

Main Scripture:  Don't forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! Hebrews 13:2

Dr. Howard Kelly was a distinguished physician who, in 1895, founded the Johns Hopkins Division of Gynecologic Oncology at Johns Hopkins University.  According to Dr. Kelly's biographer, Audrey Davis, the doctor was on a walking trip through Northern Pennsylvania one spring day when we stopped by a farm house for a drink of water.  A little girl answered his knock at the door and instead of water, brought him a glass of fresh milk.  He visited with her briefly, and then went his way.  Sometime after that, the little girl came to him as a patient and needed surgery.  After the surgery, the bill was brought to her room and on it were the words, "Paid in full with one glass of milk."

The true story above is an excellent example of how doing a good deed can be rewarding in the end. There are so many people in this world that are in need but sometimes we are tempted to turn up our noses at them. The bible encourages us however, to entertain them as they might be angels.

I have heard many other stories of persons being kind to strangers and are rewarded greatly in the end. No, we are not to do good expecting a reward in the end but the bible also tells us that we should give an it will come back to us press down, shaken together and running over.

The next time you see a stranger, be kind to them, you may never know who they are or how God will reward you.

Let’s Pray

Lord, thank you for your kindness towards us daily, give us grace today to be kind to everyone we meet.

In Jesus Name

Amen
