Main Scripture: I can do all things through Him who strengthens me Philippians 4:13(NASB)
Song to Meditate On: "The
Impossible Dream" Luther Vandross (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGsYrpejAYw)
Recently, I had to travel out of town to visit a small district
in the Garden Parish of St. Ann. To get to my destination I had to travel on
some roads that were not so easy to traverse. I encountered several steep hills,
unpaved rocky roads and numerous pot holes. At times I wondered if the poor car
would make it. If it wasn’t for my friend who was visiting for a few days, I probably
would have turned back. I persevered. When I got to my destination however, on
top of a hill, I thought wow! What beauty! The view was a sight to behold; the
hill top provided a panoramic view of the Caribbean Sea which was
breathtakingly beautiful. Suddenly the arduous journey was forgotten, I said to
my friend “that’s exactly how life is.”
In this life before we can achieve the goals that we have set,
before the dreams we hold so dearly can be realized, we often have to encounter
some potholes, some steep hills and some rocky roads. Many times, the road
looks impossible and we harbour doubts in our minds as to whether or not we can
make it. We ponder if the journey is worth it and we are tempted to give up
because are what we are presently encountering.
Ladies, this morning, my encouragement to you is not to give up,
do not give up on your dreams, do not give up on your marriage, do not give up on
your child, do not give up on your ministry, do not give up on your walk with
God. The hardships and disappointments you are encountering now cannot be
compared to the joy and fulfillment you will feel in the end because you dared “to
reach the unreachable star.”
You might doubt that you can, but the scripture teaches us that “we
can do all things through Christ that gives us strength.” Also, there were many
before us that have faced disappointments and failures but have reaped success because
they never gave up, because they believed in themselves. To name a few:
·
Henry Ford failed and went broke five times before he finally
succeeded.
·
Beethoven handled the violin awkwardly and preferred playing his
own compositions instead of improving his technique. His teacher called him
hopeless as a composer.
·
Colonel Sanders had the construction of a new road put him out
of business in 1967. He went to over 1,000 places trying to sell his chicken
recipe before he found a buyer interested in his 11 herbs and spices. Seven years
later, at the age of 75, Colonel Sanders sold his fried chicken company for a
finger-lickin' $15 million!
·
Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor for lack of ideas.
Disney also went bankrupt several times before he built Disneyland.
·
When the first Chicken Soup for the Soul book
was completed, it was turned down by thirty-three publishers in New York and
another ninety at the American Booksellers Association convention in Anaheim,
California, before Health Communications, Inc., finally agreed to publish it.
The major New York publishers said, "It is too nicey-nice" and
"Nobody wants to read a book of short little stories." Since that
time more than 8 million copies of the original Chicken Soup for the
Soul book have been sold. The series, which has grown to thirty-two
titles, in thirty-one languages, has sold more than 53 million copies.
Never give up believing in your God given potential, in all you do
trust God and believe in yourself.
Let’s Pray,
Lord, thank you for giving us dreams, thank you for blessing us
with untapped potential father, for seeing in us what we don’t see in our selves.
Father we also thank you for giving us strength and for always being there for
us encouraging us, keeping us and opening doors for us when we think things are
impossible. Help us never to give up Lord.
In Jesus Name
Amen
