Be an Example for Others

Main Scripture:  But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble. For if others see you—with your “superior knowledge”—eating in the temple of an idol, won’t they be encouraged to violate their conscience by eating food that has been offered to an idol? So because of your superior knowledge, a weak believer for whom Christ died will be destroyed. And when you sin against other believers by encouraging them to do something they believe is wrong, you are sinning against Christ. 1 Cor 8:9-12 (NLT)

Every day, every second we are being watched by someone whether it’s by our children, our coworkers, our neighbours but most importantly by God. We are being watched by persons who have an expectation of us; most times these are persons who wish to imitate us. These persons expect us to have a positive influence on them.

As adults and Christians we have a responsibility to ensure that we live as an example for those who are watching us. We are expected to be pace setters for those who have less knowledge and experience than us. Our lives ought to be a guide for those who follow us. How many times have you heard your child make a comment or observed something that they were doing, when you get ready to scold them you realize that you did or said the same exact thing a few days before? Have you ever had someone come to you and express how much they admire and want to be like you?
Ladies, these are the reasons why today’s scripture is seeking to reinforce the importance of living as an example for others to follow. The fact is those who look to us are normally looking for someone to model, our children are usually “mini me(s)” and if we cause them to fail because we did not do what is right we have Christ himself to answer to.

It is not enough to live by the saying “do what I say and not as I do”, we also need to do what we say. There is an old Chinese proverb that says “personal example carries more weight than preaching.”

So ladies today live your life in a way so that others emulate you. As Christians and adults we have a responsibility for the lives of others.

Have A God Filled Day Ladies

Let’s Pray,
Father, we pray today that you will help us to live knowing that we are being watched, not just by others but by you. Help us to be an imitator of you so that others will imitate us. Help us to be a positive influence in the lives of those we lead. We pray that you will be glorified through us.

In Jesus Name

Amen
