Redemption Song

Main Scripture:  Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12: 2 (NIV)

Song to Meditate on: Redemption Song – Bob Marley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFGgbT_VasI)

Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our mind
                                                                    Marcus Garvey
Today Jamaica celebrates its 175 years of Emancipation – freedom from slavery however Marcus Garvey, spoke of another form of slavery- mental slavery. Many of us are enslaved today because we are held captive by our past, our fears, by our current situations and those whom we are influenced by. Many of us are unable to achieve our full potential because of what we are told, because we do not have a vision for ourselves, because our thinking is limited to our experiences and the experiences of those who influence us.

The scripture above tells us that we should not conform but we should be transformed by the renewing of our minds. In order to have our minds renewed we have to change the way we do things. We have to:

·         Seek guidance from our creator and source - Jesus Christ – ensure at all times you have a relationship with God. He knows all things, sees all things so He has the advantage, find out what is His direction for your life

·         Change some of our associations – The Law of Association states that “your results always rise to the level of your influences.” Science has proven that mindsets and emotions are contagious. There is a Jamaican proverb that says, “show me your company and I tell your company and I tell you who you are.” It is also said that your income generally is the median income of the 10 people you spend most of your time with.

·         Believe in your vision -  It is said that Titans (a man or a woman who is a member of the financial, business and social elite) have the guts to believe in their own vision of their future even when they were the only people on the planet who believed in that vision.

·         Develop “Grit” - University of Pennsylvania psychology professor Angela Duckworth research has proved that people with "grit"---the trait of exceptional persistence and devotion in the face of obstacles---consistently outperform those with higher IQs.

Sam Sharpe one of Jamaica’s National Heroes said "I would rather die on yonder gallows than live in slavery."  Ladies find a “Redemption Song” today, make up in your mind like Sam Sharpe not to live in slavery. Surely that is not God’s plans for our lives, He has impregnated us with too much potential for us to conform.

Have A God Filled Day Ladies

Let’s Pray,

Oh Lord, our God and Saviour. Thank you for today for freedom, thank you for a mind to think and thank you for being our help and our source. Father we look to you today for a renewing of our minds, give us vision Lord or we will perish, grant us wisdom so that we will know what road to take and grant us grit so that we can move pass our obstacles.

In Jesus Name

Amen
