Song to Meditate on: Still I Rise – Yolanda Adams (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efmV-qOtjqI)
It always
amazes me when I see or hear of persons with disabilities that rise above the
odds, become great and make an impact on the life of others. Some of these
persons include:
Claudia
Gordon – A deaf Jamaican born lawyer appointed to the White House as new associate director in the White House
Office of Public Engagement. She is responsible for overseeing its efforts on disability issues.
Ms. Gordon lost her hearing at age eight, however despite her challenges she
became the first deaf student to graduate from the American University's
Washington College of Law and one and one on only 50 deaf individuals qualified to practice law
at that time in the United
States and Canada . She is also the first deaf lawyer who is African American and female
Nick
Vujicic - Born in 1982 in Melbourne, Australia, without arms and legs.
Nick has traveled around the world, sharing his story with millions, sometimes
in stadiums filled to capacity, speaking to a range of diverse groups such as
students, teachers, young people, business professionals and church
congregations of all sizes. Today this dynamic young evangelist has
accomplished more than most people achieve in a lifetime. He’s an author,
musician, actor, and his hobbies include fishing, painting and swimming.
Ladies despite the obstacles these persons faced they succeeded
at what they believe in because:
1.
They had faith in God
– Nick Vijicic credits his success to his faith in God and Claudia Gordon
recalls that she grew up among women who were strong in their faith. This was
the foundation that they started out on.
2.
They all possessed an
innate desire to succeed and see others succeed – Thou they had the typical
challenges of being different from others, they overcame their struggles
because they had innate desire to succeed. Nick struggled with depression
because he contemplated why he was different from everyone else. Claudia was
laughed at when she told declared at a young age that she was going to be a
lawyer. They also have a passionate for helping others to succeed. Nick empowers
and motivates many people across the world and Claudia advocate for those who
have disabilities.
3.
They had a vision
and believed in it no matter what – Nick and Claudia did not listen to voices
that discouraged them or told them that it was not possible to make it because
they were different from everyone else.
Today ladies I encourage you to rise, you may be going
through some hard trials right now but rise above your situation knowing that
God is able to do the impossible. The scripture today promises us that God can
bless us abundantly and ensures that at all times and in all things we will
have all that we need to abound in doing good.
God brought these
two persons through the worst and took them to where they are today. He can do
it for you too. Just believe in God, believe in yourself and do good.
Have A God
Filled Day Ladies
Let’s Pray,
Father, we bless your name and we thank you today for these
stories of inspiration. Lord we pray today that you will keep us and help us to
rise knowing that you will provide for us and cause us to abound.
In Jesus Name
Amen
